The Solution to Leg Cramps

For years, I have struggled with leg cramps or “Charley Horses” as my Silver generation calls them. They would wake me from a sound sleep with excruciating pain. After stamping around for at least 10-15 minutes, I would fall into bed, exhausted. One particular evening, I was thrown into 5 episodes of almost unbearable cramping all over my legs. The next morning, in the depths of despair, I began to research the topic. I knew keeping hydrated was vital but went on to discover there is little to no recommendation on how to stop the actual pain besides going through it. I kept digging deeper and stumbled on “Stops Leg and Foot Cramps in About One Minute” from Caleb Treeze Organic Farm (that is actually the name of the product).

Discovery

This Yoga Moment is about discovering the many possibilities of our own spine. This column of vertebrae is the key to conducting effective communication throughout our bodies. By strengthening the spine, we become energized and blood flow increases. By lengthening the spaces between our vertebrae in this yoga practice, the spinal range of motion can be maximized and tension released. Namaste. - Susan Cambigue-Tracey

A Delicious and “Healthy” Chocolate Dessert!

For this HipSilver Wellness Wednesday, what’s on the top of my mind is the upcoming holiday weekend and how much easier it is these days to “eat healthy” while still enjoying special and traditional holiday foods. This weekend, many people will be gathering with family and friends for either Passover seders or Easter dinners, and neither of these has been known historically to be health-oriented events.

Spring Cleaning

Happy Wellness Wednesday!

We’re almost two weeks into Spring now, and I’m feeling the impulse to do a bit of the cleansing I always recommend at this time of year. But, to be perfectly honest, my life isn’t lending itself to that kind of focus right now. While I love to take a week for extra careful clean eating and special self-care, I’m in too much forward motion to devote that kind of energy at the moment. Maybe you’re having a similar experience?

The 7 Worst Exercises for Older Adults

I see George around the gym all the time. We’re both lunchtime regulars and typically acknowledge each other with a customary nod. But I’d never started a conversation until the other day, when I noticed he was limping. I asked what happened.

That launched us into a long and winding conversation, which is how it goes with workout injuries. The older you get, the harder it is to describe any single problem in a straightforward way. Each new one is linked to an older one, and each older one has its own history.
